Abstract
The problem of adaptation of structured 2-D grids to a control
function is investigated. We aim to create a grid with highly
stretched and nearly orthogonal cells in regions of control function’s
singularities of thin-layer type. Adaptation is performed by optimizing
a mesh quality functional via node-movement. Construction of the
functional is specifically investigated. The presented functional is a
combination of an orthogonality functional and of an equidistributing
adaptivity functional. The functional and presented node-movement
strategy are used to adapt grids to several example control functions,
achieving both high-aspect adaptation in thin layer regions and
isotropic adaptation at their intersections.
