Abstract
This paper proposes a new automatic mesh generation algorithm, in which an
artificial intelligence technique is introduced to imitate the process of human
thinking for generating meshes. In this paper, the word "mesh" is used in lieu
of element used in Finite Element Method. This system satisfies the user
requirement that a geometric model should be divided into only quadrilteral
meshes such that distortions are relatively small. The shape of a geometric
model is recognized to provide the system with the ability to generate meshes
for an arbitrary shape, and the ambiguity contained in the shape recognition is
expressed by the membership function used in Fuzzy Logic.
The algorithm for two dimensional automatic mesh generation is described and the
application of this algorithm to a surface model is presented in this paper.
