Abstract

A practical method to improve the quality of tetrahedral meshes is presented. The method is based on a local optimization of a tetrahedral quality function that is constructed from the volume of the tetrahedron and the volume of the optimal tetrahedron that can be built in the circum-sphere. The formulation is suitable for the improvement of both the average quality of the tetrahedral mesh and the quality of the worst tetrahedra.
