MS 163-17, Pratt & Whitney 400 Main Street, East Hartford, CT 06118, USA ivesdc@pweh.com Abstract This paper describes the modification of grids produced by commercial systems to account for boundary layers near surfaces. Prism grids resolving the boundary layers are generated by elliptic smoothing rather than by hyperbolic marching. Elliptic smoothing methods are presented along with grid repair methods that achieve high reliability for real-world engineering problems.
