Abstract

A method is presented for automatically generating high quality surface meshes on complex geometries. The mehtod is based on the model surface curvature to resolve correctly all its geometrical features. A hierarchal approach, based on a combined topological/geometrical description is used, both for setting the meshing parameters and for generating the mesh. Special care is taken to ensure that a smoothly matching discretization will be created across edges and vertices which join multiple faces. The surface mesh generation algorithm is based on the Delaunay triangulation, modified to account for surface curvature. The method can produce surface meshes suitable for generating high quality unstructured volume meshes with just a few user parameters.
