Abstract
Operations to facilitate the derivation of idealised models from CAD geometry and techniques to identify automatically features suitable for idealisation are presented. Whilst the development of idealisation tools in commercial modellers is proceeding rapidly, techniques to estimate the modelling error introduced by idealisation are also necessary. Future developments in analysis modelling will require interaction with CAD systems in a manner which is independent of the underlying modeller.
