I am a principal member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico, working in the Computational Modeling Sciences Department (Org. 9226) where I lead the Cubit mesh generation toolkit development team. I am also adjunct faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and at Brigham Young University.

I graduated with my Ph.D. in 1999 from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. My advisor was Dr. Sunil Saigal. The subject of my doctoral research was unstructured finite element mesh generation, My dissertation focussed on several topics related to Non-Simplicial Unstructured Mesh Generation, or simply, mesh generation methods involving quads, hexes and pyramids. I came up with a novel approach to generating all-quad and hex-dominant meshes for arbitrary domains. I have also worked on other related problems such as boundary layer meshing for CFD, mesh morphing for micro-mechanical (MEMS) devices, anisotropic mesh generation on parametric surfaces, surface parameterizations, mesh refinement and constrained Delaunay methods. I also have written a review paper on unstructured mesh generation methods which has been referenced frequently by authors in the field.

Just for fun, I maintain a web site, called the Meshing Research Corner. It started just as a convenient way to keep track of current literature, but now has evolved into a site where I maintain more than 900 references related to mesh generation, many of which have full papers available on-line.

Although my recent research has been in the area of mesh generation, I also have experience in diverse fields, such as computer aided geometric design, groundwater flow and transport modelling, interpolation and site characterization, user interface development and scientific visualization.

Until November 1999 I held the position of a Senior Development Engineer at ANSYS Inc.. I completed my Bachelors and Masters degrees at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Until 1990-95 I managed the development of the Department of Defense sponsored groundwater modeling software, GMS. I was one of the software managers in the Engineering Computer Graphics Laboratory in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
