The Carnegie Mellon Shotokan Karate Club is one of SKA's oldest dojos, and the oldest martial arts club at CMU. Started in 1966 by graduate students Martin Eisen and Dan Sullivan, the dojo joined Mr. Ohshima's organization in 1973 under Sadaharu Honda's leadership. The dojo hosted many special trainings in the 1970s and 1980s, and several of the club's seniors have been training with SKA for over 30 years. The dojo is currently led by sandan Mark Ciancutti and offers free karate instruction to the CMU community. Many of our members also train regularly with the nearby University of Pittsburgh Shotokan club led by godan Mike Duray. The CMU dojo created the first karate page on the web (1993), and this later become SKA's official website. Organizationally, the three dojos in Pittsburgh are known as Pittsburgh Shotokan.
