Catalog of Pittsburgh's public libraries. Carnegie Mellon faculty, staff, and students can borrow materials by getting a Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh library card at the Main Library lending desk. Public bills, committee reports, commissioners' reports, and accounts and papers. This latter category includes Command papers, papers presented to Parliament by order of the king or queen. They include state papers (treaty series, country series, miscellaneous), policy or white papers, annual reports, reports of Royal Commissions, tribunals and commissions of inquiry, departmental committees, and statistical reports. Once you have the complete citation information on the document you need, to find the actual document listed in these indexes, go to the British Sessional Papers in the UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH, HILLMAN LIBRARY MICROFORMS room. These papers are located on the back wall of the microforms room, under number J301. They will be in year (session order), then volume order. Locate the year and volume you need. The microcards in the box will be arranged by volume and page, with this information listed on the upper right hand corner. Locate the volume and page you need. Microprint readers are available, staff can show you where they are and how to use.

Locate reporting on the U. S. Congress
Journal Articles
Journal articles are written by scholars in the field, and are the type of article your professors usually expect to see in your papers, supporting your thesis. They are located by use of databases, which usually cover journal articles in a particular field. While you might find a few articles in a search of the surface web by using a search engine like Google, you will find many more by using these specialized databases, which Google, and even Google Scholar, do not search.

Citations, some abstracts, and some full text links to journal articles, dissertations, and book and media reviews on United States and Canadian history from prehistory to the present. Use the advanced search to search or browse subject terms. Use the Time Period line to limit to a particular century, e. g. 1800H or even a particular decade, e. g. 1850d. You can combine one or more decades, e. g. 1850d or 1870d or 1880d

The best resource for finding citations and some abstracts of journal articles, books, and dissertations on world history from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada), with some links to full text. It covers all historical topics and a variety of disciplines including religion, gender studies, anthropology, political science, etc. Most of the books and dissertations are from 1979 to the present. To limit your search to only books and/or journal articles, click on the button to the right of the Document Type line. Mark the document type(s) you want, then click on Paste Term. To limit your search to English language materials, type in english on the Language line. Use the Time Period line to limit to a particular century, e. g. 1800H or even a particular decade, e. g. 1850d. You can combine one or more decades, e. g. 1850d or 1870d or 1880d.If full text links for journal articles are not provided, click on the SFX button
to see retrieval options. This is only for journal article citations, and may not be available in all databases. Otherwise, use Cameo to see if materials are in the Carnegie Mellon University Libraries. If they aren't, you can use the Interlibrary Loan options to either borrow or obtain a photocopy of the material.
