    Below are some databases and print indexes that you can use to find books and articles on topics dealing with African history. For a more complete listing of those relevant to History, see History: Databases and Indexes. If you need help in selecting or using a database or index for your research, please contact the Hunt Library reference desk.

    • ClasePeriodica (Carnegie Mellon users only)
      Clase: 1975 to present
      Periodica: 1978 to present.
      CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities. PERIODICA covers journals specializing in science and technology. Use this database to find articles, essays, book reviews, monographs, conference proceedings, technical reports, interviews and brief notes published in journals edited in 24 different countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as from publications that focus on Pan-American issues.

    • HLAS Basic Search (Library of Congress)
      1935-present (updated quarterly)
      Electronic version of the Handbook of Latin American Studies, this database consists of selected, annotated citations to books, journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers in anthropology (including archaeology, ethnohistory and ethnology), art, economics, geography, politics, history, international relations, literature, music, philosophy, and sociology.

    • Historical Abstracts (Carnegie Mellon users only)
      1954-present (Updated monthly).
      Citations and some abstracts of journal articles, books, and dissertations on world history from 1450 to the present (excluding the United States and Canada). It covers all historical topics, including foreign policy, and a variety of disciplines including religion, gender studies, anthropology, political science, etc. Also has a U. S. and and Canadian history counterpart, America: History and Life. You can also search America: History and Life and Historical Abstracts simultaneously.

    • Political Database of the Americas (Georgetown University)
      A comprehensive source of documentary and statistical political information
    If we don't have the books you need you can use EZ Borrow (books get here in about 3-5 days) or interlibrary loan using Illiad (books get here in about 7-10 days). If full text links for journal articles are not provided, click on to see retrieval options. This is only for journal article citations, and may not be available in all databases. Otherwise, use Cameo and the Find e-journal list to see if materials available to you. If they aren't, you can use Illiad, the interlibrary loan service, to obtain the material. Reference staff can help you if you're not finding the materials you need.
