Project 1: Toy Concepts
Overview:
Come up with three concepts for children's toys, based on physical principles. These toys should be fun, safe, self-explanatory, and durable. Draw simple sketches of these toys and present one in class. Then make websites for each of your toy concepts
My Experience:
Part 1: Sketches
This was the first project for the class, and sketches are definitely not my strong suit making this an interesting experience. I did my best to come up with ideas running into the problem of coming up with ideas quite often. I also dwelled to much on how my ideas worked down to what gears or springs go where, rather than just sketching the basic concept. I learned that in rapid prototyping the most important point is to get the general idea for what you want to be made first rather than focusing on all the little details.
Part 2: Presentation
I presented my pet tiger concept. This was the first one person presentation of the class, something which I am often uncomfortable with. The presentation was video taped and returned to us so I could watch it over and over critiquing myself. This part of the project gave me good experience in getting my ideas across to an audience with little time for preparation. I found that my biggest problem was in maintaining eye contact as opposed to looking at my overhead.
Part 3: Web Pages
My web pages are linked below. For this experience I learned the basics of creating a web page using Dream Weaver, including how to make it readable and logically organized. It also gave experience in explaining my concepts in word form.
