Brainstorming Meeting

Activity Description

Brainstorming

Overview:

In groups based on a personality test, generate requirements for new dorm room furniture. Rank these ideas and come up with a list of the five most important unmet requirements. Then come up with ideas for dorm room furniture which meets these requirements. Present these ideas to the class as a whole.

What I Learned:

This exercise gave me a good look at the frustration involved in participating in group meetings especially with no defined leader and unclear instructions. Most of the time for this activity was spend arguing over what we were supposed to do, mainly what constituted a requirement and if/how we incorporate all ideas into one or two furniture ideas. Despite teacher input we were still left with discrepancies as far as the overall goal of the project. This gave me a good impression as to how business meetings should not be conducted. I imagine similar issues are common in business settings. Hopefully this experience will help me have more productive meetings in future group work both in college and beyond.
