Online journal list – Check to see if a journal or magazine is contained in one of our databases.
Interlibrary loan – if we don't have the book or article that you need, we'll get it and send it to you. Choose "ILLiad" on the page linked here. The first time you use the service, you'll need to register, where you will include the address to which you want the book sent. When you make your request, in the "notes," just let them know you are on our New York campus. You are responsible for mailing the book back to campus on time - a mailing label will be included. Financial services companies - directories and listings
Dun & Bradstreet's Million Dollar Database – contains 23 million companies worldwide. Use the Advanced Search to create and download lists with specific criteria. For financial companies, open the NAICS code search and then expand the Finance & Insurance categories. Limit also by country if you only want the US.
CareerSearch database - creates lists of companies with basic information and contacts. You'll need to create an account first - "client referral" is cmu04.
Hoover ’s Online – click on "Build a List" and then open the Industry section and "browse" the NAICS codes, choosing what you're interested in. (You'll also want to limit by location, as this is international.) For just the top companies, locate a company you are interested in, then check “competitors” on left hand side.
Security Dealers of North America - in Standard & Poor's database, 5000 brokerage and investment banking firms and their branches in the U.S. and Canada, description and contacts - can search by location
VC and PE firms, as well as their funded companies: VentureXpert/Private Equity database - covers US, Europe, and Asia - click on "Profiles" at left.
Thomson's PEHub has an MBA forum with listings of internships in PE and VC - free registration; school code: stadium.
Hedge Funds:

Hoover's Online - includes U.S. public and private, and international companies; company leadership, history and description, financials, products, etc. Also industry overviews. Quick but brief.
Business & Company Resource Center – "Companies" section will give you basic data, rankings, market share, histories, and valuable news articles – find your company and use tabs at the top for many features. For small companies, use simply “Article Search.” "Industries" section has substantial reports on hundreds of industries.
MarketLine database – detailed company and industry reports; also financial deal information in the “Assess M&A Activity” section on right. User guide.
LexisNexis Academic - has an extensive "company dossier" for millions of companies. To get it, use the "Get Company Info" segment at the bottom left. All of the sections can be expanded for more information, including the sections at the left.
Standard & Poor’s Netadvantage – extensive information on major industries and also public companies.
Proquest – contains articles in newspapers, magazines, trade publications and scholarly journals.
bizjournals.com - business newspapers for major cities; excellent source for indepth local business reporting
Vault.com – from the COC, will tell you what it’s like to work at some major companies, esp. in finance. (Password: game)
Annual reports, conference calls, and SEC filings
SEC’s EDGAR - public company and mutual fund (though not hedge fund) filings, including many international companies.
Any public company website should have links to the quarterly financial reports and the printed annual report (as well as company history, mission statement, etc.)Use Google or wikipedia to locate a company's website. Once there, look for the "About the Company" section, and particularly the "Investor Relations" section, where you should find the annual reports and "events" such as conference calls and executive presentations. Company websites have excellent information, but keep in mind that there could be information bias.

Value Line Investment Survey - stock reports with financial performance data, analysis, projections, rankings, beta, key ratios for 2500+ public companies.

LexisNexis Datasets - (click on "Customize Data.") provides time series data for economics, banking, finance, industry, commerce, securities, etc. Creates charts, graphs, tables, and maps; also performs calculations, analysis, and comparisons.

Industry ratios - compare company financial data against industry norms:
*Special tip* - use the Marquis Who’s Who database to find executives in your occupation and your city. Then, look at their profiles under "memberships" and see what organizations they belong to.
