Homework 7: Due April 8

1. Consider the following.

A Web browser executing on a PC (pc32410.heinz.cmu.edu) issues a HTTP request for a document (http://www.fedworld.gov/index.html). Assume that the PC is a node on an Ethernet LAN. The Server (www.fedworld.gov) is also on an Ethernet LAN. The two LAN's are inter-connected over a Frame Relay Network.

Using the handout on the OSI reference model, step through each layer of the OSI stack on the following devices the HTTP request makes its way from the browser to the server.

• at the PC

• at the router which connects the LAN on which the PC is a node to the Frame Relay Network

• at the router which connects the Frame Relay Network to the LAN on which the Web server is a node

• at the Web server

2. Research the web pages on the following organizations related to the Internet anbd write a short paragraph that summarizes their role in its management and evolution.
