I grew up in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. As a kid I always
wanted to grow up and make video games, and now I do. It started with just changing dialog
text files in Scorched Earth and it eventually led to making entire games.
In high school, I took every class I could to learn about digital media, 3D modeling,
computer art and programming. After high school, I settled with programming and attended
Bloomsburg University for Computer Science.
After college, I decided I wanted to learn more about how the game industry worked so I
enrolled in Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center. The ETC is an
interdisciplinary graduate program that offers a Masters of Entertainment Technology degree
(MET).
At the ETC, students get in groups of four to seven and work on a semester-long project.
The project can be pitched by the students, sponsored by an external client, or organized by
the ETC. My first project was a pitched project, 'The Winds of Orbis: An Active Adventure',
that aimed at creating an active game that used immersive action-adventure gameplay, not a
sports simulation or minigames.
For the summer between my two years at the ETC, I am an intern game engineer at Schell
Games. At Schell Games, I work on various projects as a game programmer and as a game
designer. The atmosphere is great and I am loving the job.
