Search Engines: Architecture to Optimization TTG Consultants, 2003 ? Rajiv Garg Abstract With the rise of Google and the new innovative web-page ranking methodology created by Google, small sized companies generate revenue that is inversely proportional to the numeric rank of their web-pages on the search engine. This gave birth to a new business of search engine optimization that would help you tune your web-pages to have a higher ranking. Since most of the ranking is based on a number of data points that could be faked with some effort by almost every business, it became a problem for search engines to provide accurate results. Google and others then followed various approaches to filter search results which caused some of the companies to lose their business and/or lower revenue. Through this article I first present how search engines rank the pages and show the results for any search performed and then I propose long lasting web-page optimization methodologies that might require extensive resource investment but true and accurate positioning.
