First research report is now available here: Job Game: A Research Report

Welcome to our unique LinkedIn.com job search study that is aimed at understanding how individuals utilize the power of online social networks (like LinkedIn.com) to search for jobs and grow their career. Previously we studied an online social network around music (Last.fm) and found that online peers are 6 times more influential in discovery of new music. Now we want to further that study and understand the existence of any potential influence on a more life changing event - like career growth and job search.

Like many online social network fanatics I do believe that the future of internet will be driven by these growing social networks that will not only change the way we communicate but also the way we shop, search, and interact with the society.

I really appreciate your visiting this page. Please feel free to let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.

To study the impact of LinkedIn.com we have created an IRB approved survey that questioned professionals about their job search strategies and outcomes. I would really appreciate your help in completing this survey.

To take this survey over a secure SSL connection please click on the following link:

If clicking the above link does not work, please copy and paste the link in your brower's address bar. This survey should take about 15 minutes and will help us answer some of the most important question on what works and what doesn't.

Once again, I really appreciate your help in completing this survey and participating in this study.

First phase of the survey was completed in September 2010. We collected responses from professionals who had lost their jobs to the troubled economy. This first research report is dedicated to those individuals and presents a methodology that should help them find a new job. Please click on the following link to get that preliminary report.

We also collected responses from 12 professionals who voluntarily changed their jobs. However, the information received was not enough to perform any data analysis or identify strategies for job search. Thus, we will provide a report here if we get more data from professionals searching for jobs while employed.

Is the survey safe?

The survey is approved by IRB and the responses are collected over a secure SSL connection. Any information collected will be stored in a secure location and no identifiable information will be shared with any 3rd party.

Can I later decide to have my responses deleted?

Absolutely. Please feel free to email us if you later decide to delete any or all of your responses to questions in the survey.
