MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
ANTI-SWEATSHO EXHIBITION

TUESDAY DECEMBER 11 - 7:30 - 10PM

EXPLANATION AND DIRECTIONS FOLLOW
special appeal for YOU to TESTIFY

IWW Membership Meeting starts at 7 - All Common
Workers interested in IWW membership are invited

It starts at 7:30 PM in the GCIU Union Hall at 1825
Blvd of the Allies. Thank you GCIU, it is a really
great meeting space with all kinds of exciting Union
stuff on the walls. It is best to enter from the
back, from Locust Street between Gist and Miltenberger
on the side closest to the Blvd of the Allies. From
Oakland – come down Forbes, left on Miltenberger, left
on Locust, park the car. You could also take the bus,
following these same directions. The back of the
building has a fence and then a parking lot. Walk up
the back dock and through the pressroom. Listen for,
“Hello, we are in here!” You can also enter from the
sidewalk on the Blvd of the Allies.

IWW IU 450 is a new Wobbly group that has come
together in Pittsburgh specifically to help coordinate
demands on Major League Baseball for sweatshop
accountability. United Students Against Sweatshops
has pioneered a model of holding the holder of
copyrighted logos accountable for the conditions where
those logos are sewn. The model really works and
there have been concrete results over the past several
months.

Now we need to be figuring out how to expand the model
to cover more sweatshops and, more importantly, more
places for more people to pressure the licensers
further. Major League Baseball is not only the
largest holder of copyrighted logos in the world – it
is also the international symbol of fair play and they
OWE the people for all these pretty new expensive
stadiums.

Please show up on Tuesday night at 7:30 and learn more
about the campaign. We are specifically inviting
anyone and everyone to TESTIFY about sweatshop
conditions and sweatshop struggles. Education is not
only the urgency in this specific campaign; it is also
the greatest victory yet come down the pike. Lots of
us know A LOT about sweatshops and we need to share
it. IU 450’s invitation for you to TESTIFY is always
open and always a big part of our gatherings.

Also – this is an invitation to common workers,
without the ability to hire and fire, to join the IWW.
Most of the IU 450 Pittsburgh members are new to the
IWW. The IWW is the Union that would sign us up, as
printers and as workers in anti-sweatshop struggle.
We have been impressed with our Union Sister and
Brothers around the world and the General
Administration of this Great Union. Our experience
with the IWW has been one of true empowerment and
mutual respect. Whether we choose to build our
membership into a General Membership Branch or a Job
Shop is an open question dependent upon the needs of
this anti-sweatshop struggle. We invite all IWW
members in the area to join us in these decisions. It
feels a little like, the more we struggle, the less
clear the answers and the more help we need with
organizational decisions. I am an IWW Delegate with
the responsibility to sign people and collect dues.
All IWW members and common workers interested in IWW
membership are welcome to attend a short membership
meeting starting at 7 PM.
