  I. The People Who Walk in Darkness

The people who walk in darkness have seen a great light;
Those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shined.
You have multiplied the nation;
You have increased its joy;
They rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest,
As they are glad when they divide the plunder.
For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given.

  II. Gloria in Excelsis Deo

Gloria in excelsis Deo,
And peace on Earth, good will to all men!

  III. The Virgin's Cradle Hymn

Sleep, sweet babe! my cares bequiling: Mother sits beside thee smiling:
Sleep, my darling, tenderly! If thou sleep not, mother mourneth,
Singing as her wheel she turneth: come, soft slumber, balmily!

  IV. Hodie Christus Natus Est

Hodie Christus natus est:
Hodie Salvator apparuit,
Hodie in terra canunt Angeli, laetantur Archangeli,
hodie exsultant justi, dicentes:
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Alleluia.

[Today Christ is born:
Today the Savior appeared,
Today on Earth the Angels sing, Archangels rejoice,
Today the righteous rejoice, saying:
Glory to God in the highest!]
