Research Abstract »
A wiki is a community-created website consisting of interlinked pages that are limited to the scope of the wiki, but virtually unlimited within it. The interlinked structure of wikis allow users to start at any level of depth in a given topic and move among broader and narrower topics with ease. Pages that have not been created can easily be created, and existing content can be easily modifed, as flawed information can easily be corrected or removed. This allows for a vast amount of information to become easily available on the web, but there is little or no insurance of validity, and it is difficult to handle censorship. In this growing world of knowledge and interaction, wikis have tremendous potential to increase information access and usability; however, they must enforce stricter standards to maintain both validity and freedom of speech.
