Computer Science Instruction for Students with Special Needs:
Drector of the Computing Workshop project, a project designed to develop and provide adapted instruction in Computing and Technology for secondary school studentswho would ordinarily not have access to such courses. Have been in charge of multiple components of this project, including ongoing one-on-one instruction which provides information about how to work with these students; designing and administering the summer instructional program; planning and implementing curriculum and courseware in collaboration with a pilot school and providing support for school personnel; developing relationships with other schools and with community organizations;developing teacher training; interviewing, hiring, and training instructional and technical personnel, developing a budget and working with funders, as serving as co-principal investigator on an ongoing study and designing a successive study.  

Teaching:
Instructor in Computer Science, full-time for most of the period 
from 1981-1994, and on a part-time basis since then.  Currently 
developing CS courses for special-needs students as well as teaching
and supervising instruction; developed a HS Computing Workshop
for the after school program at Fox Chapel HS during Spring 2000;  
developed an online programming course at Westminster College, 
Fall, 1999; taught full time at the Community College of Beaver County,  Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and Louisiana  State University.  Experienced in developing courses, teaching a variety  of programming and other CS courses and supervising instructors and TAs.
 

Reading Instruction:
Have been a Researcher on Project LISTEN (a Reading Tutor) at CMU, designing and carrying out experiments evaluating the effect of  spelling instruction on reading skills.   Previously wrote the prototype Reading Tutor for the "Enhancing Early Literacy Skills through Computers and Tutors" project, which was funded by the James S. McDonnell Foundation.
 

Science Instruction:
Have been an educational consultant/curriculum developer  for 
EventScope  (middle school science using telerobotics).
 

Cognitive Psychology:
ACT-R cognitive modeling of planning strategies for air traffic control
and air reconaissance with the ACT-R group at CMU.

Programmer for Psychology Software Tools; developed E-Prime Wizard.
 

Other Programming Projects:
Developed software for automatic indexing of large-scale textual 
databases using Latent Semantic Indexing,  at the former Laboratory 
for  Computational Linguistics at CMU.

Developed online questionaires for data collection for studies at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic and Children's Hospital.
 

Education:
Current doctoral student in Instructional Design  at the Center for
Innovation in Learning, CMU; coursework in Intelligent Tutoring Systems,  cognitive psychology, and instructional design.

Prior graduate-level course work in Education at the University of
Pittsburgh.

Scheme for a Process Planning Expert System".

Volunteer activities:
Board member and Education coordinator, Fox Chapel HS PTSA,  and 
Board Member, Dorseyville Middle School PTA, 1998-present.

Instructor , Children's Hospital Positive Parenting program, 1994-99.

Helped to develop a Conflict Resolution program and served as a 
volunteer mediator, Liberty Elementary School, 1995-97. 

Taught Internet class for third-graders, Liberty Elementary School, 1996.

Reading/math tutor for grades K-3, Liberty Elementary School, 1992-96.
