What We Are Doing
We believe that all students should have the opportunity to pursue their areas of interest and to be successful. We are working to provide this opportunity to students in the area of computing skills, with adapted curriculum and courseware. For some students, this may mean developing skills that could lead to further education and/or independent employment. For others, new knowledge and skills may lead to greater independence or simply improved quality of life.

School Year 2001-2002
Partnered with Fox Chapel Area High School to pilot a year-long Computer Technology class for Life Skills students.

School Year 2003-2004
Partnered with Pittsburgh Public Schools to develop and provide classes in computing for students at The City Connections West and Langley High School's Autistic Support class.

Summer Programs
We have had summer computer camps during the summers of 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005. Students received one-on-one individualized instruction in areas related to computing, made visits to projects on the Carnegie Mellon University campus, and had the opportunity to socialize with other students.

Open Lab
We will be holding weekly open lab sessions for current and former Computing Workshop students. Computers will be provided, as well as technical assistance in graphics, web design, and programming. More info available here...

Bridges to Technology
The Bridges to Technology is a collaborative effort of The Wesley Institute and the Computing Workshop project. It is designed to provide education in computing and technology for postsecondary students who need more academic and social support than is provided in more traditional college environments.

New - Summer Program 2006
We will again be holding our summer program on the LaRoche College campus. It will run from July 5th through August 3rd.

We would like to thank the Heinz Endowments for their ongoing support of the Computing Workshop Project, and the Pittsburgh Foundation for their support of our partnership with Pittsburgh Public Schools. We would also like to thank IBM (and, in particular, the people at the T. J. Watson Research Center) for providing laptops for student use. The Wesley Institute contributed time and expertise to make the Bridges to Technology Program possible.
