Hobbies: Arts


Arts. The title sounds more complex than it actually is, but I didn't find another title meaning that I like painting, music, books, movies and so on. I would like have been an artist but I do not have enough talent to do it. Anyway, a quick review of what kind of things all like to do in concerning arts:

Painting

I have been drawing and painting for years, but I have never tried to do a serious work painting. I just enjoyed doing some sketches. For instance, when some years ago, we create an informal magazine with some friends in the scout group in to which we belonged. We usually put a lot of our drawings there. At the same time, in the same scout groups, we did several paints on leather as a prize to the competitions. I also have painted some T-shirts for my son, my wife and myself. Finally I am starting to try with some acrylic paint on a traditional material now.

I want to put some of my own paints decorating my living room and my office, so I have to start to work more seriously. The acrylic paints are the first step.

Music

I am a frustrated musician. I love music, but I do not have any talent to play it. I first try to learn to play guitar when I was 10 years old. I trained for 3 months, and then my guitar was accidentally broken. Later, in the music class in the school I was not a good flute player at all. In the high school we create a rock group: "Zambreketen". There, I was the singer, but I figure out that I was not a good one.

The story does not end here. I continue trying to learn. When I decided to get married, I thought that it would be amazing if I could play a couple of songs to my wife in the marriage party. Then, I bought my first keyboard (Yamaha PSR292) and I started to try to learn by myself. As a result, I join some of friends from different places of Chile and with a single rehearsal the same day of the marriage, we finally play three song in the party: "Retrovertigo", "Everything's ruined" and "The Zephyr Song". I know that we did not play in tune, but I was happy with that.

Now, I am in Pittsburgh. The first week I decided that I would prefer to have another keyboard instead a TV, so in a dangerous and risky trip to East Liberty night, I got my second keyboard: A Yamaha PSR540. With it I am still trying to play. See an example of piano score that I am dealing with right now. As you can see is really basic, but I am not hurried. I will be happy if I can play Find the River in 2025…

Writing

As painting, I like write. Just for pleasure. Just for fun. Just for relax… I usually write very short stories. I would like to write a novel, but I do not have patience enough. The problem is I usually write in any piece of paper and I the simply throw it. However and although it is rather embarrassing, I have some of my writings available (ups, sorry; Spanish only for a while).
