Overview

Blu-Ray discs are a relatively new type of media, used for watching movies in High Definition. They were created to be the High Defition form of DVDs. Since 2006, Blu-Ray was competing against HD DVD in a format war. In February of 2008, Blu-Ray defeated HD DVD as the new High Definition DVD. Since 2006, sales of Blu-Ray discs and players have been relatively low because the players are very expensive (around $400). Prices are supposed to go down in the holiday season of 2008, and by 2012, Blu-Ray should begin to be the high selling DVD media.
