What to Look for in a Great Job After College

Now that you are almost done with college, it is time to seriously start looking toward your future. After all, simply completing your education is not all that it takes to get a great job. You need to also know how to create a great resume and you must know how to impress people in your industry. In fact, the more people you know and the more you network with people within your industry, the better chance you will have of landing a great job!

Of course, making a good impression isn’t all it takes to get a job that will truly help you build a strong future. You also need to know how to select the right job. In most industries, there are many job openings available. In order to set yourself up for the best future, you need to know what to look for in a great job.

The main thing you need to consider when looking for a great job is the benefits package. The benefits package should at least include insurance coverage. At the minimum, your new employer should provide you with health insurance coverage. This way, you will be financially protected if you become ill or are involved in an accident that causes you physical harm.

In the best case scenario, the employer should also provide you with some form of dental and eye coverage. Many employers do not provide their employees with this type of insurance, but it is almost as important to have as health coverage. If you have a family or plan to have a family in the future, having dental coverage and eye coverage is especially important. After all, growing children need their teeth and eyes to be monitored closely in order to ensure the greatest health.

Other types of insurance you should look for include disability insurance and life insurance. With disability insurance, you will be provided with a portion of your wages if you become disabled and are temporarily unable to work. Life insurance, on the other hand, will provide your family with a payment if you die while still employed with the employer. By having life insurance in place, you can rest assured in knowing that your family will be protected and that the bills can still be paid even after you pass away.

In addition to considering the salary that the employer is offering to you, you should also look at other potential sources of income. For example, some employers offer bonuses to their employees on a somewhat regular basis. Ask the employer to explain how bonuses are earned and how often they are given to employees. In this way, you can have a good idea of how much more money you can expect to potentially earn in your new position. Of course, you should also consider opportunities for advancement and should ask your potential employer how much you can expect to earn in a few years. This way, you will be able to better select the company that provides the best opportunities for today as well as for the future.
