Instamatique

In April 2007, Lea Albaugh and Dominic Dagradi ran an art experiment based around a challenge: to produce 24 dresses (Lea) and 48 photographs (Dom) in a single, 24-hour period. With a limited palette of inexpensive materials and an even more limited timeline, the goal was to produce dynamically and not dwell on either successes or failures. Instamatique took place at the Frame, a student-run gallery space at Carnegie Mellon University, and its progress was documented on the internet by a team of volunteers. Not only did Lea make her quantity goal, but she created a few designs that will serve as ideas for future, less hurried projects. Additionally, Instamatique gathered a significant crowd of onlookers, which provided feedback and showed that community involvement can be a vital part of the gallery experience.
