HelpLine is a generic Information and Referral (I and R) service that has served the community of Allegheny County for over half a century. Current information on over 2500 health and human services in the Allegheny County area is available through this service. The Library and United Way have partnered to combine United Way's interest in community needs with the Library's expertise in information technology and to make it all very accessible by locating the service on the second floor of the Main Library in Oakland.

I and R links people in need with appropriate services. Trained staff is available to walk-in or phone patrons, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crisis intervention counseling is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The number to call is 578-2450.

In addition to individual services, HelpLine staff provides training on community resources to area agencies and, working with the Department of Labor's Rapid Response Team, provide information to displaced workers.

But HelpLine Information Services also publishes the Guide to Primary Health Care and Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention Resources directories.
