After many long discussions with my collaborator- Melissa Dolin, we’ve decided on a simple yet effective installation.

The following is a brief description of our installation:

There will be two TVs facing each other, with a microphone in between them- inciting a conversational environment between the two appliances. On one TV, there will be a video of a flag being raised on a flagpole. On the other TV, there will be multiple people (that we collect and interview) singing our National Anthem.

The volume and confidence of the participants voice will either A.) if the voice is increasing in volume- it will raise the flag up the pole B.) if the voice is decreasing in volume- the flag will go down the flag pole.

This piece harkens to nationalism in media, the TV as an American icon, and collection of data from a large demographic, and also everyone’s personal responsibility for their own nationalism and patriotism.
