Start Your Journey (Page 1 of 2)

What Is Your "Network"?
Do you have a network of support? Think of it this way: There you are one day in the middle of your life journey, and suddenly you need a little help. You look at your cell phone and think of all the people, places or resources you could be connected to through the telephone network—if only you knew the number to dial! You can expand your personal network of support by learning how to make contact with people and resources. Many of them are already out there for you, ready to talk when you make the call.

What Are Your "Assets"?
To keep your life journey moving in the right direction, you will have to draw on your assets. A banker would look at your financial assets—at money in your account or things you own. But your personal assets can be even more important. For example, your abilities (to communicate, to organize things ) and capacities (to care for others, to be persistent) are valuable assets.

Another set of assets depends on the experiences and opportunities to grow that your community, family, or workplaces offer you. These assets include places in your life that let you make decisions, be creative, learn skills, or work with others. The important thing about these assets is that you can actually increase the size and strength of the assets in your life by seeking out places in the community that will let you have growing experiences and develop your own abilities.
