Services and Holidays

Worship services and holiday celebrations are a unique part of our Jewish identity. Our services are very participatory. Members are asked, as they are comfortable, to serve as Gabbai, for an aliyah, to open the ark, to dress the Torah or to lead readings. We also support individuals who wish to play additional roles, such as a leyner who chants from the Torah.

Saturday morning Shabbat services are held at 10:00 am all year round. These services tend to be traditional in nature, as we seek to serve the needs of a variety of religious backgrounds. They feature socializing and treats after services during a festive kiddush.

We hold weekly Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday evenings at 7:30 pm from September through June. A festive and delicious Oneg Shabbat (a dessert reception) follows every Friday service. A Community Shabbat Dinner is held before Friday services several times through the year. Children are always welcome at any service, and are often asked to help participate. However, the first and third Shabbats of the month are especially family-oriented:

  • The first Friday of each month features our Family "First Friday" service, during which we use The Voices of Children children's siddur and feature an especially kid-friendly sermon.
  • The second Friday of each month features our Torah Talk service, where in lieu of reading a verse from the Torah, we talk about the meaning of this week's portion.
  • The third Friday of each month features our musical Shirei Shabbat (Songs of Shabbat): . This service is enhanced by music, and we encourage our members to participate by playing their instruments, or using their voices! This is another especially family-friendly service.
  • The fourth Friday of each month features our Reflect and Renew Shabbat service, a more contemplative and reflective service that focuses on letting go of the past week and embracing Sabbath peacefulness.
