Jewish Themes in Film:
Tuesday, February 8 at 7:30 pm
Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 pm
We will be viewing a film and then engaging in
discussion. George Goodman will lead us in discussion about the Jewish themes
represented in films.
Lecture Series-Jews in Sports:
Sunday, February 13 at 10:45 am
Jews have not always been associated with athletic achievement. But
from Hank Greenberg (who missed a game during a tight pennant race
in 1934 because it fell on Yom Kippur) to Sandy
Kaufax (who missed game 1 of the World Series in
1965 for the same reason), Jews have always been
a part of sports. There are a dozen Jews playing on
NFL teams in the 2010-2011 season (none on the
Steelers).
Jonathan Mayo, a senior writer from MLB.com, will join us for our Sunday morning lecture series to discuss Jews in sports, and the impact they have had on popular culture and perception over time. Teens and guests are welcome.
Lecture Series-Jewish Continuity:
Sunday, March 13 at 10:45 am
Cindy Shapiro will be speaking about the challenges and opportunities of maintaining Jewish continuity.
