This course will be an extensive study of roller coasters. It will include the history of roller coasters (from Russian Mountains to modern day), a solid background on roller coasters such as different types and manufacturers, and issues concerning their design. As part of the course, the class will take a field trip to Kennywood, the local amusement park, for a behind the scenes tour of the park and its roller coasters (the trip is free to all enrolled students). The course is open to all interested students, and while physics related to roller coasters will be discussed, no previous knowledge of physics is assumed.
