Midfielder and University Athletic Association offensive player of the week David Zupon (Pittsburgh, Pa/Upper St. Clair) scored his fourth and fifth goals in the past two games leading the Tartans to a shutout victory. Carnegie Mellon dominated the game. They outshot Waynesburg 23-2. John Petrillo (Toms River, NJ/Ranney School) added his fifth and sixth assists of the season.

Carnegie Mellon traveled to Chicago and where they won their UAA opener against the University of Chicago. In the 49th minute freshman Matt DiGiacomo (Charlottesville, Va/Albemarle) crossed the ball to fellow forward Doug Jones (Herndon, Va/Thomas Wooten) who tapped it into the goal. Senior Ben Kartzman (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) finished with six saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

The Carnegie Mellon men's soccer team is now ranked eighth in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region.

Earlier in the week, Carnegie Mellon defeated crosstown foe Carlow College. The Tartans outshot the Carlow 17-1. However the game went into overtime, where team leading scorer Melissa McMorrow (San Jose, Calif/Archbishop Mitty) her fifth goal of the season. During the first minute of overtime, Ashley Wermine (West River, Md./Southern) crossed the ball to McMorrow who beat the Carlow goalie.

Saturday, Carnegie Mellon traveled to the University of Chicago to play their University Athletic Association opening game. The Tartans lost 2-0. Freshman Maya Nigrosh (Worcester, Mass/Worcester Academy) faced 32 shots and ended up with 13 saves.

Women's Tennis

The Carnegie Mellon women's tennis team traveled to William Smith College for the ITA Regional Championships. 14 teams and over 60 student-athletes attended the event. Senior Whitney Brooks (San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen's) and sophomore Beth Powell (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles championship flight. Brooks also made it the quarterfinals in the singles consolation draw. Junior Elisabeth Brown (Philadelphia, Pa/Central), seeded fifth in the tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals in the singles championship flight.

Carnegie Mellon turned a 6-2 record at this weekend's University Athletic Athletic round robin play. This was the Tartans best record in the history of UAA play. Senior Stephanie Szobota (McDonald, Pa/Fort Cherry) put away team high 98 kills over the weekend. Freshman Lauren Schmidt (Wellsville, NY/Wellsville) led the team with 93 digs and added 87 kills during the weekend. Sarah Putaro (Pittsburgh, Pa/Baldwin) averaged 11.35 assists per game.

The Tartans defeated six out of the eight UAA opponents. In their last match Carnegie Mellon faced tournament host Case Western. The Tartans captured the five game match (14-16, 15-13, 15-4, 8-15, 15-9). Sarah Putaro finished the match with 69 assists and Stephanie Szobota dominated with 26 kills.

Carnegie Mellon is now ranked fifth in the NCAA Great Lakes region. This is the first time the Tartans have ever been regionally ranked.
