I am currently developing nano-templated magnetic nanoparticle composite materials with magnetic and catalytic properties for environmental engineering application. This aim can be achieved by incorporation of iron oxide nanoparticle onto colloidal silica particle with the introduction of polyelectrolyte layer between them through layer-by-layer assembly. This study focuses on how the colloidal based interfacial effects, such as surface functionalization of the nanoparticles, colloid stability, orientation of the assembled nanoparticles, surface-to-volume ratio of the nanotemplate in dictating the final functionality of as-synthesized nanocomposite for pollutant removal from water resources.
