John, Vineet, and Vish from CMU and Amar and Venkat from Cornell ebarked on a short yet challenging hike on the first weekend in November '04. Rescheduled from the planned excursion on Hallowe'en weekend due to excessive rain (we claim the fact that Minister Creek is on Pennsylvania Road 666 has nothing to do with it), the beautiful weather made the trip a success, as these pictures will attest. As in any camping trip, there were hardships. We arrived at the Allegheny National Forest quite late (5PM), which forced some skillful orienteering in the dark to stay on the trail to the camp. The ground was soggy, but most managed to keep their running shoes dry by jumping around and trying several paths through each mucky spot. The timber was wet, and prevented us from starting a fire (we claim it is not due to lack of skill). Vineet's feet froze overnight, but they thawed once breakfast was eaten. And Vish fell off a cliff, but somehow managed to get a good grip of the edge and climb back up without even getting a bruise, so all is okay. On the way back, we ended up following the trail markers, which led us in a wide circle around an old oil well. This was the most scenic part of the hike, as we walked through several large rock walls and cave openings. Strange that it is not part of the official trail, but it is one mistake we'd gladly make again.
