Minimalist Tacos, Marfa, 2006
Performance
I pushed "Minimalist Tacos" (empty taco shells) for a day during the Chianti Foundation open house in Marfa, Texas. I was interested in the anomalous intersection of art and culture in this southwestern rural landscape. Also intriguing is the capitalization on Judd's choice to live there by his foundations and the community - locals, transplants, and visitors alike. The taco was a perfect object culturally and formally for my own capitalization. I approached passersby asking, "Have you ever tasted minimalism?" Other barrages were "Taste the space," "It's not what it is, it's what it isn't," and "It's not the corn, it's the form."
