Introduction
and Disclaimer:
In Woody Allen's brilliant 1979 film Manhattan, Isaac Davis (played by
Allen) philosophizes about the meaning of life and about the significance of
human relationships in a famous scene toward the end of the movie. During this
monologue, Allen's character famously lists the things that - according to Allen
- make life worth living. Although my personal list would share at least a few
items with Allen's (like Groucho Marx, Mozart's Jupiter Symphony, Swedish
movies, and Flaubert), my list of things that make life worth living also would
definitely include the "Headlines" segment on Jay Leno. As the ridiculous and
boring introduction suggests, I love the humor of the "Headlines" segments.
Something about the utter absurdity of this crazy assortment of misprints, malapropisms,
and misplaced modifiers makes me laugh harder than [insert random funny thing
here].
Thanks to the convenience of the internet, many of the headlines from the Tonight
Show are only a click away at the NBC
website. Below are some of my favorite headlines from recent months. Although
there is not an explicit copyright disclaimer at the bottom of the NBC web-page
(at least that I have seen), I feel compelled to mention that the content on
this page comes from the Tonight Show web-page at nbc.com.
I am in no way affiliated with Jay Leno, his wry sense of humor, or his awkwardly
large chin.
