Schneider group news
- 4/22/08: Jeff Savard defended his
thesis entitled "Micellar and Chromatographic Media Surfactant-Based DNA
Analysis and Purification." Jeff accepted a research scientist position
at Merck & Co.
- 3/31/08: Jim Schneider delivered one
of two invited lectures at the
Herbert D. Doan Endowed Nanotechnology Symposium
at the University of Michigan. The event was sponsored by
M-NIMBS, a multidisciplinary team of chemists, physicists, engineers,
and biologists collaborating on nanoscience in biology and medicine at
Michigan.
- 5/4/07: Shane Grosser defended his
thesis entitled "Separation of Hydrophobically Modified Nucleic Acids in
Capillary Electrophoresis." Shane accepted a research scientist
position at Merck & Co.
- 9/1/05: Shane Grosser has been
selected to receive a Dowd Fellowship from the CMU College of
Engineering. This year’s Fellows were selected based on the
innovative nature of their projects, the ability of their research to
support the ICES mission of fostering a multidisciplinary research
environment, and the likelihood that their research may facilitate
government and industry support in future years. His project is
entitled "Microchip Processing and Enrichment of Nucleic Acid Samples
using Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography."
- 5/21/05: Congratulations to Bruno
Marques, who received a Best Poster award at the National Meeting of
the American Chemical Society (Colloid and Interface Science Division).
Bruno has successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis and accepted a position
as Research Scientist at Merck & Co.
- 5/31/04: Congratulations to Jim
Vernille and Ijeoma Nnebe who successfully defended their
Ph.D. theses this spring. Jim has accepted a position at
Bristol-Myers Squibb and Ijeoma will be working as a staff scientist at
IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center.
- 1/29/04: Jeff
Savard has received an NIH training grant for his thesis work.
Jeff is one of the first from CMU to participate in this joint Pitt-CMU
program, which includes in-depth biology coursework and an internship
experience.
- 10/22/03: Congratulations to Ijeoma Nnebe, who received a PPG Fellowship for her thesis work.
Ijeoma has been developing dynamic AFM methods for the characterization
of colloidal and biological forces.
- 6/27/03: Congratulations to Jim
Vernille, who received the award for Best Student Presentation at
the 12th International Conference on Biopartitioning and Purification,
held in Vancouver. His presentation was titled "Surfactant-Based
DNA Purifications for Genomic Processing and Biotechnology."
