In the fall of 1996, the amazing real-life hero, Dith Pran, who survived
the holocaust of Cambodia in the 1970s, came to Carnegie Mellon to tell
us about his experiences and the progress made in Cambodia since he left.
After Pran and his family escaped Cambodia and came to the US, a movie
was made based on his experiences. The movie, "The Killing Fields",
went on to become a hit, winning 3 Oscars in 1985, and a Golden Globe.
The IRO greatly appreciated Pran's visit, as did many of the CMU
students who came to see him.
