We request current graduate students to provide accommodation to you for the first 2-4 days you are here. This process starts sometime in July, and we will post relevant information at that time on <span class=GramE>IGSA<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>  </span>website</span>. This said<span class=GramE>,</span> do keep in mind that the number of students coming in increases every passing year, and not every existing graduate student is willing or is in a position to host someone. Therefore, it is not possible for us to provide accommodation to everyone. So you should try your best to make arrangements on your own. If you are unable to do so, watch out for this spot in July. We request you to not bank on us and try to make arrangements for yourself. However, if nothing works out, contact us, and we will try to arrange something for you.</p> <p><br> Here are some notes:</p> <ol start=1 type=I> <li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;margin-bottom:12.0pt; text-align:justify;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3;tab-stops:list .5in'><span style='font-family:Arial'>Temporary Accommodation is a community effort led by IGSA at CMU. <br> Current students come forward to accommodate new students for a few (2-4) days so that the new students can comfortably find their permanent accommodation. <br> This is purely voluntary and current students are not forced to accommodate new students. It's just goodwill on their part which is sometimes driven by the fact that they used temporary accommodation too when they came. <br> That said, it is also obvious that we cannot &quot;guarantee&quot; temporary accommodation for everyone as it depends on how many volunteer are available to host new students at that point of time. However, so far we have seen that, in general, it works out for everyone who asks for temporary accommodation. <br> The role of IGSA here is to create the channel for communication and ensure everything moves smoothly, as there are considerable logistics involved. <o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;margin-bottom:12.0pt; text-align:justify;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3;tab-stops:list .5in'><span style='font-family:Arial'>We do not charge for Temporary Accommodation. <br> It is a good cause and is not done for any monetary benefit. <br> However, we do recommend the new students who stay with someone on arrival to pay back to the person they stayed with in kind e.g. take him/her out for dinner someday just as a thank you courtesy. This is of course not enforced :). <br> In rare cases, the landlord of the student willing to accommodate a new student needs guests to pay a nightly rent to stay. We usually avoid such cases. But if it really comes to it, we'll check with the student who is being offered the temporary accommodation to see if he is willing to pay the nightly rent. Reminder: This is an extremely rare case and is unlikely to happen. We must clarify that in this case the money goes to the landlord and not to IGSA or the current student who is accommodating you. <o:p></o:p></span></li> <li class=MsoNormal style='mso-margin-top-alt:auto;margin-bottom:12.0pt; text-align:justify;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo3;tab-stops:list .5in'><span style='font-family:Arial'>Membership is not a requirement for availing temporary accommodation. All students coming from India to CMU are eligible to request temporary accommodation from IGSA. In fact, no one is an IGSA member before coming to CMU, so temporary accommodation is offered impartially. <br> Anyhow, it turns out everyone coming from India joins as IGSA members once they are all set in CMU as there are multiple benefits of being an IGSA member. <o:p></o:p></span></li> </ol> <p class=center style='text-align:justify'>One thing we urge the new students every year is that they should not ask for temporary accommodation from IGSA if they can arrange other sources of temporary accommodation on their own. That just wastes our resources in organizing stuff for you. If you have some other easy source of temporary accommodation, use that, so that we can direct our resources to students who do not have any other source.</p> <p><span style='font-size:10.0pt'><br> </span><b><i>IMPORTANT:</i></b> Students should not use this Facility as a &quot;Backup to Other Arrangements&quot;. It causes unnecessary trouble to the host, who may need to make arrangements for your stay and alter his/her schedule for your arrival. Moreover, it wastes our resources, which can be allotted to other students who actually need it. So please ask for temporary accommodation from IGSA only if you really need it. Your cooperation in this regard is appreciated. Please act responsibly!<br> <br> <span class=GramE>A</span> Emergency Contact person will be established for you, depending on the date of your arrival. In case of any problem, you should first try to contact your host. If for some reason you are unable to contact him/her, only then should you contact your Emergency contact.<br> <br> Finally here is a list of general guidelines for students (who are offered temporary accommodation), while they are staying at their host's place.
