Medical Tests before coming to Pittsburgh
Can you please tell about the immunization policy at CMU i.e. immunization history of diseases which we will have to show and how seriously are they taken?

  • I just needed to get one test done (TB Test). Other than that all other things are normally fine for everyone. Better to do whatever test you need to do in India may be a month before you come here. Here it will cost a bomb. RK
  • The TB-Test is a relatively inexpensive, almost pain less simple test. It’s better if you get it done if you haven’t had one in last 6 months. All clinical testing centers will do it. Even if you delay it till last moment, I recommend you get it done at least one week before you fly to Pittsburgh as it take 4-5 days to get results. No need of any doctor's signature. When you get the TB Test report, attach it with the form. RK
  • Meet your dentist before you come here. I would recommend it as dental is not covered in the default medical insurance (~$950/year). Check out the exact numbers here. Dental treatments are extremely expensive in the US.
  • Get some basic medicines. If some Ayurvedic/Homeopathic thing works for you, get it. Get your doctor to write a prescription for those medicines in view of your travel and stay in the US. Although it might not be checked, you are not allowed to  carry medicines without prescriptions in the US(except for a few over the counter medicines).
