About 2 hours North of Pittsburgh, PA lies a beautiful place to relax, swim, and boat on the shores of Lake Erie called Presque Isle. The Isle is French for "almost an island." It is a 7-mile long peninsula that juts out from the mainland, lined with beaches, hiking trails, and ponds. The peninsula is separated from the mainland by Presque Isle Bay. The Eastern shore of the Isle changes due to the shifting sands. To help prevent erosion, the Isle is now surrounded by more than 50 breakers.

Our 10-year-old golden, Kaija, has never seen anything bigger than a small lake in our nearby city park Highland Park. So we thought that it was time she experience life on a BIG lake.

After driving around the peninsula, we found a great spot on the West side of the Isle facing Lake Erie. We knew that dogs were prohibited from any of the swimming areas with lifeguards. So we found the perfect spot for us to relax.

Kaija was totally enthralled with the water, with moving boats, AND with jet skis!
Kaija just couldn't get enough of the beach and the water!
Both of us took turns taking her to wade in the water--and to contemplate life
while looking out at the beautiful seascape before us!
