Distinguished Juror for 2011 Spiretec Headquarters Competition, and "India@100" Symposium, New Delhi, Feb. 2011 (with Lucien Kroll, Ken Yeang, Michael Sorkin, Peter Head & others).

 

Centre Canadien d'Architecture (CCA), Montreal - catalogued a series of photographs of German modernism, including projects by Bruno Taut, 1997.

 

Berkeley C.E.D. Documents Collection - supervised organization and cataloging of Garret Eckbo Archives, 1993.

 

Professor Spiro Kostof - researched and edited substantial portions of Kostof's The City Assembled (Thames & Hudson, 1993), 1991-1992.

 

Professor Lars Lerup - designed and crafted furniture for SFMoMA show, later published in catalogue Visionary San Francisco (SFMoMA, 1990), 1990.

 

Riverfront Development Corporation (RDC), Chester, PA - consultant to nominate the Wolfe Building (1882, 'Delaware County National Bank') to the National Register of Historic Places. Completed all application and research procedures, 1985-1986.

PROFESSIONAL WORK - Architecture & Building
 

Gutschow & Powers Design, Berkeley, CA. 1992-1993.
Independently design, prepare working drawings, and supervise construction for small residential additions, including: $100,000 addition to Folloni Residence, Oakland, CA; and a seminar room in Wurster Hall for the C.E.D.R., Dept. of Architecture, U.C. Berkeley.

 

Burks / Toma Architects, Berkeley, CA. 1990. Project architect responsible for all phases of design and construction documents for several small, Type V., residential additions.

 

Spencer Hall & Associates, San Francisco, CA. 1989.
Prepared complete working drawings sets for three 5000sf spec-houses in Marin, as member of a two-man team; focus on cabinet-work detailing and interior design.

 

Goetz Hagmüller, Architekt, Bhaktapur, Nepal. 1989-1990.
Projects related to the traditional urban environment of the Kathmandu Valley: Design of lobby/entry in Patan Durbar Palace (Preservation, adaptive reuse); Cyasilin Mandap in Bhaktapur (Reconstruction). Active in on-going studies on ritual and the urban fabric and the place of preservation in Nepalese society today.

 

Tischlerei Halvor Gutschow GmbH, Hamburg, Germany. 1986-1988.
Two-year, guild-accredited apprenticeship in cabinetmaking and woodworking. Experienced in all aspects of manufacturing and installing high-end furniture and built-ins. Independent design and construction of furniture for clients, including the design and construction of a Teahouse near Frankfurt. Guild school attendence: 16 weeks/year.

Draftsman for a large university hospital project.

 

Richard Bergmann Architects (RBA), New Canaan, CT. January 1989, 1980-1986.
Architectural draftsman and designer. Worked in all aspects of this small design firm, with progressively increasing responsibility from office assistant to head draftsman.
