Unless otherwise specified, our current practice
schedule is:
Monday-
Open fencing from ~6:30pm until ~9:30pm in the Skibo Gymnasium Arena
Room.
Wednesday- A lessons with coach
Iana Dakova in the Arena Room from ~6:30pm to ~7:30pm,
open fencing in the Skibo Gymnasium Fencing Room from ~7:30pm until
~9:30pm.
CMU practices have a very light hearted atmosphere, and most fencers
attend for the fun of the sport as opposed to practicing their
circle sixes. The exception to this is for one hour on
Wednesday when a professional coach visits and runs the club though
drills. Generally, attendance can around 8 fencers, but this
is very variable depending on when tests and breaks are. On a
good day there may be sixteen but before midterms and final the
number can drop to just a few.
At CMU we have fenced foil and epee for the past few years and while
sabrists are welcome we simply, currently have none. Equipment
is available for use by all members and any prospective members
including a large array of sizes. The club has five strips.
Membership for a year is $50 and for a semester $30 but membership
is certainly not required for the first few weeks. We are,
after all, here for fun.
Every year the club hosts the CMU Holy Grail Championships, a team
event that has become one of the largest and most popular of its
type in the state. The club also hosts a USFA Tournament for all
three weapons each year.
