Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation

As Librarian at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, I've been fortunate to be able to work with a specialized rare book/research collection focusing on botany and the history of the plant sciences. This has given me a strong appreciation for publications as products of and catalysts in the history of ideas and communication as well as in the development of the plant sciences. It has also given me a strong interest in the preservation of library and archival materials. October 2011 marked our 50th anniversary, which we celebrated with an exhibition and printed catalog.

Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries (CBHL)

The Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries is an organization formed, according to the bylaws, "to initiate and improve communication between persons and institutions concerned with the development, maintenance and use of libraries of botanical and horticultural literature."

Linnaeus Link: Access to Linnaean Material on the Web

Linnaeus Link is an international, collaborative project designed to make Linnaean collections and information more accessible. An international group of librarians and scholars is laying the groundwork for creation of a Web-based resource. The project has produced a union catalogue based at the Linnean Society of London.
