Solar Decathlon 2007
Greenscape
Collaboration with Joey Hays and Will Schlough
and the expertise of Meredith Magin and Bob Bingham
The Greenscape is the natural component of the Carnegie Mellon house for the 2007 Solar Decathlon Competition.
Inspired by terraced rice patties, the Greenscape is designed as a water retention system. The 450 gallon tank collects rain water from the roof and irrigates the plants through a drip-line directed by the natural flow of gravity. The water drips down the terraced structure and filters into a bog at the ground.
