Due to "techinical difficulties" the HTML workshop that was going to be covered on Friday will take
place on Wednesday, Jan 30. This means that your revised sketches are now due on Friday, Feb 1.
Heads up!!
In case you didn't read the above note, the revised sketches that were due this Wednesday are
now due Friday, when we will hold our second official crit.
Wednesday will be covering Style Sheets--and some other fun stuff--so you will need to read
this article
in preparation for class. It is quick, and you only need to read the first page, so please make sure to take
the time to do it. There will be dire consequences for those who don't...
You.com
Don't forget to pick out your URL and "hire" an ISP to host your portfolio site. I expect you all
to be able to FTP files to your own personal web server by Friday, so make sure to do this ASAP!
First Class
Good morning, and thanks for coming to class today. Unfortunately, I am currently
out of town so I won't be able to answer your questions directly until Friday. Imran, our TA,
will go over the syllabus with you and take your name if you are here in hopes of being added
to the roster. There are many people on the waitlist, so there is no garauntee that you will
be added; we will have to see what the numbers are before we make a final decision.
This is a mini, and the time will go quite quickly, so we'll need to get started right away. By the
end of the class today, after Imran reviews the syllabus with you, I would like you to send
me and Imran email
outlining the following information:
What is your goal by the end of this mini?
What skills do you already have to accomplish this?
What skills/techniques do you think you need to learn in this class to accomplish your goal?
Do you already have a website/blog and/or myspace/facebook (or similar social networking site) page?
In addition, by Friday, I would like you all to find an available URL to host your portfolio. One day,
you all will be forced to leaves these hallowed halls, and it would be best if you found yourself a home
on the web that wasn't related to your Andrew space. If you don't know where to start, go to
networksolutions and type in some names to see
if they're available. Unless you already have a plan with an ISP, I suggest you hold off on purchasing the
domain name just yet, as often times ISPs will register your URL for free when you sign up for service with them.
