Ben Sauerwine's Web Notes

Office: Wean Hall 6421

June 6, 2009: I just got back from vacation, and posted some of the pictures we took. It's been a while since I've gotten a real break, so this was a great week. For everyone who keeps asking if I have a Facebook or Myspace site, the answer is no. I do not like social networking. If you want to find out what's new with me, you'll have to come here, e-mail me, or call me!

May 6, 2009: I'll be giving another talk this weekend at the 101st Rutgers Statistical Mechanics conference, so I put a version of my talk up on YouTube as usual. I'm also working on an exciting new model for automatic riboswitch sensing and identification, which I hope to update soon.

April 6, 2009: Greg was kind enough to take some new portraits of me for here on my main page. If you hit refresh a few times, they should come up.

April 1, 2009: This is not an April Fool's joke. Sean aka "Firesickle" used a clip from one of my talks below and combined two of my favorite things: techno music and biopolymers. It's part of his "21 Days of Melody" project, whereby he will make 21 new songs in 21 days. If you're interested in some unique tunes, you should take a look.

March 19, 2009: The APS meeting has been really exciting--meeting a lot of new people, fans of my website, catching up with friends' research. It's something akin to being a kid in a candy store, except the candy is every kind of research you've ever wondered about. This is an earlier version of the talk I gave on Tuesday. After my annual review I will add an RNA section under my research and include my annual review write-up, slides and text from previous talks.

December 11, 2008: I'm giving a talk at Rutgers Statistical Mechanics Conference soon. Here is a practice run that I recorded for YouTube. This is a very short talk, and rather non-technical, so you might like it if you are casually interested in my research.

October 18, 2008: It's been nearly a year since I've updated this page, and indeed not a lot has changed around here. Behind the scenes, however, I've been making a lot of progress on two papers on RNA folding. If this were a real blog, this is where I might write about said work. Being that we are now in the information age, however, I thought you might like to instead watch my first-ever scientific talk, given on October 10, 2008 at the Pittsburgh RNA Club meeting.

The title was "The Folding Kinetics of Riboswitch Transcriptional Terminators".
