Analysis Meeting:  Wean Hall (big, ugly, concrete building) Room 8325 on 8th floor.

We'll have coffee and bagels available if you don't want to find breakfast in advance.

Walking directions to Wean Hall from hotel (short route, for rainy days):

Left on Fifth to S. Bellefield, Right on S. Bellefield to Forbes, Left on Forbes (cross Forbes when you can).

After bridge across Hollow take first right onto campus. Follow road behind Hamburg Hall and enter Newell-Simon building.

In lobby, go up one flight of stairs then turn left and cross bridge to Wean Hall (4th floor). Take elevator to 8th floor turn left to 8400 corridor.

Walking directions to Wean Hall from parking (indoor route, for rainy days):

Pass University Center and cross the green area (cut) follow sidewalk to Doherty Hall. Enter and follow corridor to end. Take staircase on

left up one floor continue down (literally!) corridor to end. Go left and take little tiny elevator up to 8th floor of Wean Hall or go through door

to Wean Hall and up to 8th floor. 8400 corridor (Medium energy group) is on your left, 8325 is on your right.

 

Collaboration Meeting: University Center (bigger, not as ugly building, Click for floor plans.)

Thursday: Connan room (First floor.)

Friday: Dowd room (Second floor.)

Parking: East campus garage (just east of University Center on map) enter from University Center driveway or

directly from Forbes Avenue (at corner of Beeler).

(Note, campus is short walk from Holiday Inn, you may want to leave your car at the hotel.)

Nearest Starbucks: Corner of Forbes and S. Craig St. (on walking route from hotel).

 

Note: Don't plan on using S. Neville St. to walk to campus. You'll reach the right (x,y), but wrong z. Pittsburgh is 3-dimensional.

Getting here from the Airport
Carnegie Mellon and the Oakland section of Pittsburgh are about 22 miles from the airport.

City bus 28X

By far the least expensive option is a city bus (Port Authority Transit) at $2.60 (EXACT CHANGE)

The closest stop to the Holiday Inn is on South Bellefield Ave. at the corner of Fifth Ave.

(Cross Fifth, turn left on Fifth and walk two blocks to Tennyson, which has an entrance to the hotel.)

For departure, there are stops near the hotel and at CMU.

 

Shuttle

Express Shuttle USA. (412-321-4990)

$25 one-way ($10 for students with ID)

$45 round-trip (not a good deal for students)

Buy tickets at counter. No reservation needed from airport.

Shuttle (to "OAKLAND HOTELS") every half hour. 07:00-22:30

Return shuttle from Holiday Inn every hour (BY RESERVATION) 06:00-19:00

 

Taxi

About $35 each way. Cabs available at the airport curb. Reservation recommended for return.

Limo

About $65 each way. Reserve 24 hours in advance.

Rental Car

You're on your own. (Hotel charges $17/night for parking.)

 

Getting to Pittsburgh, driving (assuming you take PA turnpike)

 

Slightly longer but simpler route:

Take the Pittsburgh/Monroeville exit 57 from the PA Turnpike (I-70/I-76)

Immediately after the tunnel, take exit 5 for Squirrel Hill.

Exit ramp makes sharp U-turn then merges with other exit ramp. (Sorry, there wasn't room for an exit here, but they built one anyway)

Move quickly to left lane and take first left (towards Squirrel Hill). Continue to traffic lights at 5-way intersection.

Take slight left to go North on Murray

Go up hill past 5 traffic lights. Turn left on Forbes at 6th light.

Follow Forbes (careful, it makes a sharp right at a stop sign) past CMU until you are forced to turn right on Bellefield (when Forbes becomes one-way).

Go one block on S. Bellefield then left on Fifth and move to right lane.

Turn right on Tennyson or Lytton.

Slightly shorter but trickier route:

Take the Pittsburgh/Monroeville exit 57 from the PA Turnpike (I-70/I-76)

Take I-376 West through the Squirrel Hill tunnel.

Continue to exit 3b, Oakland, 885.

This puts you on Bates street. Follow Bates, crossing Blvd. of the Allies, to traffic light at Atwood.

Turn left on Atwood. Follow Atwood to traffic light at Forbes Avenue.

Turn right on Forbes. Follow Forbes for a few blocks and move into one of two left lanes (it's 4 lanes wide).

Turn left at S. Bellefield (two left lanes are forced to turn left).

Go one block on S. Bellefield then left on Fifth and move to right lane.

Turn right on Tennyson or Lytton.

If you're driving straight to CMU, follow instructions as above but:

 

On first route, a few blocks after Forbes makes a sharp right you come to CMU. At Beeler turn LEFT into parking garage.

If you miss entrance, continue past garage and make first left (good luck with that! There may be a double yellow line there.) into University Center driveway. Then garage entrance is on your left.

 

On second route, continue on Forbes (in two right lanes) past S. Bellefield and S. Craig and cross bridge onto CMU campus. Then, after second traffic light on campus, driveway to University Center is on your right. Then turn left into parking garage. Or, if you miss turn to University Center, continue to far end of garage and turn in at first right.
