Beta Theta Pi was the first college fraternity to:
  • Be founded west of the Allegheny Mountains (August 8, 1839)
  • Have the oldest continuously published college fraternity magazine(1872)
  • Publish an open constitution for public distibution (1879)
  • Be in 13 states - more than any other fraternity
  • Be on more than 35 campuses - more than any other fraternity
  • Establish a chapter west of the Mississippi River (Universityof Iowa 1866)
  • Adopt an expansion view
  • Organize into districts for administrative purposes (1873)
  • Have general officers (1872)
  • Create alumni chapters (1867)
  • Have a General Convention and one of few to have annual Conventions
  • Host an interfraternity event and meeting
  • Require chapters to remain informed about each other
  • Adopt a 2.5 Minimum GPA for a chapter (1984)
  • Adopt a 2.5 Minimum GPA for each member (1997)
  • Adopt at 2.7 Minimum GPA for a chapter (2006)
